Who is The Currency Shop?

The Currency Shop doesn’t sell currency but they sure know a lot about the industry. The Currency Shop is owned by Wise (formerly TransferWise), and they’ve poured all their knowledge into their smart little comparison engine. It’s what keeps our visitors coming back time and time again. Because they closely vet each provider and only show the very best deals available, users can easily find the right provider for them. The website displays all the options, highlights the fees and rates per provider, and present the deals with total transparency.

The challange

We were challenged to take a 800+ page website and turn it into a compact, user friendly currency comparison site with an extensive Knowledge Centre. Major work to the sitemap and navigation across the site was done, plus a fresh new look with custom illustrations and updated brand colours.

Conducting user interviews and research was a major part of the project. The research focused on the people’s values, behaviours and their experiences around the journey of currency exchange and international money transfers. Soon after we discovered that buying currency should be part of the excitement of traveling and not a boring transaction.

Knowledge Centre

An extensive currency knowledge centre for users to learn the ins and outs of currency. The hub offers articles, guides, reviews and online tools to get users up to speed on the world of international money exchange and transfer. Give power to the people!

Rate watcher & smart conversion tools

For easy access to the best rate, users are able to save and watch the best rates using a convenient Rate Watcher.

Tone of voice & writing guide document design

The role of organisational writing is often decentralised, with responsibilities shared between many different content authors. The tone of voice guideline will provide a central reference to keep the overall voice consistent and reflective of the The Currency Shop brand.
